It’s official. The 15th year of the New Hampshire Film Festival is in the books. There was so much going on during this year’s amazing festival that I hardly know where to begin!
It’s really amazing to me to see how the festival has grown, just during the 4 years I’ve been attending. NHFF Executive Director Nicole Gregg, Programming Director Nicole Galovski, Co-Founder/Panel Director Dan Hannon, Screenplay Competition Managers Jeff Somerville & Angela Marsh, Technical Director Ryan Plaisted, Co-Founder Chris Proulx and Young Filmmakers Workshop Director John Herman...

New Hampshire Film Fest Update

So I'm on day three of the 4 day festival, and what a crazy exciting festival it's been! I've seen some absolutely awesome films and had the chance to interview a few of their makers.
I had every intention of posting some reviews while the festival goes on, but now I realize that that's just not going to happen. There are far too many interesting and exciting things going on for me to spend much time at the computer. But, in exchange, what I will do is give you a little taste of what I'll be working hard to bring to you next week.
Roger Memos talks about h...

How quickly another year has passed! It seems like just last week I was filling you in on all of the amazing films that I saw at the 2014 New Hampshire Film Festival; and yet, here we are! As always, there are a TON of great looking films included in this year’s lineup, including short films, features, documentaries, animation and music videos. (Check out the 2015 NHFF trailer here)
Besides the films themselves, there are a myriad of other things that will be going on this year. The New Hampshire Film Festival staff always work hard to bring in some big names and a li...

It's been too long...I'm Sorry!

I feel the need to apologize to you. I’ve been rather lax in my upkeep of this site over the summer, and so have missed updating you on many of the things that have been happening. It’s just been one of those summers that I wanted to squeeze as much as I could into, but unfortunately posting to my site wasn’t on the list. I plan to make up for that in the coming weeks, and posts, as best I can. To keep up to date on the latest happenings, and to get your “Movie Quote of the Day”, you can follow me on Twitter @LMovieLowdown.
In the meantime, here is what’s happened over the ...

Comparison: Inside Out Vs Minions

I’m going to try to compare this summer’s top two children’s movies, Inside Out and Minions. I think it’s safe to say that the two biggest times of year for Hollywood and the theater industry are summer and Christmas. In my opinion they’ve taken this to the extreme, leaving the rest of the year with pretty slim pickings. That aside, I think I’ve pretty well worked out their formula. Summer is the time for at least one big budget comic book movie (sometimes two or three as is the case this year with the releases of Antman and Fantastic Four). Then there has to be at least one widely hy...

Must the Show Really Go On?

You may think I’m posting this late, but really I’m not. It’s just that I was waiting to gather all facts possible. Since no more seem to have surfaced, I decided that now is the time.
Word broke on May 14, 2015 that after a mind-boggling 26 seasons with long running animated sitcom The Simpsons, Harry Shearer, voice actor of not only the most beloved characters on the show, but a total of over 100, will be leaving. Although nothing concrete has come out, it’s been rumored that Shearer has decided to leave due to contract disputes with Fox.
I know! ...

Actress and Comedienne Anne Meara Dies at the age of 85

Actress and comedienne Anne Meara died over the 2015 Memorial Day weekend at the age of 85. She was best known to the “older generation” as half of the legendary comedy team “Stiller and Meara”. For the younger of us she was known as Ben Stiller’s mom. Jerry Stiller, (her husband), was quoted as saying that “…we were married 61 years and worked together almost as long.”
Meara appeared on numerous TV shows and in countless movies throughout her 61 year career. Some of the more notable TV appearances include the late ‘70’s show Archie Bunker’s Place as Veronica, the 80’s sitcom A...

Live Long an Prosper: My (belated) Thoughts on Leonard Nimoy

As you can tell by the lateness of this post, I’m not fully used to keeping up with the times for the sake of this website yet. I hope to get better at that as more time passes, but for now I guess I’ll stick to “better late than never”.
As far as celebrities go I’m not really the typical fan. Of course I have those who I tend to stick by, watching and/or listening to almost anything they come out with; I also have those who annoy me to the point where I mute the TV or radio if they’re on, as everyone does. But for the most part celebrity deaths, marriages, divorces and...

87th Annual Oscars:More Bad Than Good

You may think it would be hard to sum up a 3 ½ hour award show in one word, but there was one word that kept repeating itself in my mind all night long: awkward! We may not all be fans of Neil Patrick Harris, but after hosting the Tony Awards and the Emmys numerous times it seems pretty safe to say that we should expect a certain level of humor, professionalism and pizazz from him. Unfortunately all of this was lacking from his performance as host at this year’s Oscars.
The show opened with what (to me anyways) seemed to be the longest tribute song to “moving pic...

2015 Oscars: My Thoughts, Picks and the Nominees

Let me start by addressing the so-called controversy that’s been brewing over this year’s movie selections. At the moment many people in the media and in Hollywood are in an uproar because there were no African American nominees for Best Actor or Actress and the director of the film Selma, Ava DuVernay was “snubbed” out of being nominated for Best Director. I think the whole thing is ridiculous! First, it seems like there’s a new hubbub every year when the nominees are announced and it really wouldn’t be in “Oscar” fashion if there wasn’t some sort of controversy this year. Second, ju...
